It’s May

One of my favorite stories is that of King Arthur of Camelot.  It is a legend that gives an idealistic view of life with complicated and inappropriate relations and tragedy… and an ending with bright rays of hope.

One of my favorite Broadway shows and movies is Camelot, by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, a musical version of the Arthurian legend.  And one of my favorite songs in the show and movie is The Lusty Month of May.  The show’s soundtrack has Julie Andrews singing this song while the movie has Vanessa Redgrave singing it.  Two distinctly different voices and styles but two great performances.

I recorded both versions and for years I called numerous friends and played it for them on May 1st.  By now I could call them and play it without any intro and they know it’s me.  One year I decided to stop doing it and I got calls asking if I was ok since they did not get the call.

May 1st brings the cheerful anticipation of the end of winter and the beginning of warm weather, flowers blooming and trees waking up with their green leaves. It represents to me a happy transition to bright feelings and happy thoughts.  Feel Good!  Welcome to May!
