Free Bookmarks for $25.00

Last Thursday, the East Brunswick Public Library Foundation had its first fundraising event and it was a great success.  We honored award winning author/illustrator Brian Selznick, a native of East Brunswick.

The Roots & Wings event began at the Library at 7:00pm with soft drink cocktails and cheeses and vegeta EBPLF bookmarkbles followed by a program where Mr. Selznick kept us enthralled about his adventures growing up attending our public schools and using the Library, writing and illustrating, getting published, and having his story produced in a movie by Martin Scorsese that won five Academy Awards.  Selznick took us behind the scenes showing how the movie was made with sets constructed to duplicate the drawings in his book, “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” with the movie title shortened to “Hugo.”

The program was followed by every imaginable desert including an hour long line to have books signed by Mr. Selznick.

This was a fun evening with funds raised to start the Foundation’s endowment.

The Foundation provides private funding for programs that have the potential to generate future ongoing revenue sources for the Library.  Programs previously started through the Foundation’s funding are the Business Resource Center and the “Just for the Health of It” program that is partnered with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and provides specially trained and certified medical research librarians to assist its members and promote health literacy.  This program is now a model for libraries throughout the country.  The Foundation also donated a self-checkout machine to the Library.

Three beautiful collector bookmarks were produced for the event which I would be pleased to send you for a $25.00 tax deductible contribution to the East Brunswick Public Library Foundation, Inc.  Mail your check to me as follows: Ed Mendlowitz, Treasurer, East Brunswick Public Library Foundation, 2 Jean Walling Civic Center, East Brunswick, NJ 08816.  Make sure you include your mailing address.
