Things to Talk About When Your Kids Are at Camp

Last week many parents shipped their kids off to sleepaway summer camp, and they now have an “empty nest.” I assume many of them are rejoicing at the freedom they obtained for the next few weeks. I also assume that some of them no longer know how to have a reasonable conversation with their spouse, so here are some suggestions.

Conversation Points

  • Assuming you both like Trump or Biden, you could talk about how they did in the debates.
  • Assuming one of you likes Trump and the other Biden, then skip this and go to the next bullet point.
  • You can talk about Robert Kennedy Jr’s prospects.
  • You can discuss whether you will vote for president in person or by mail.
  • You could talk about updating your wills.
  • You could decide which of you would write to your kids at camp and who will take it to the post office to mail it.
  • You can discuss the increase in postage rates on July 14th and whether you should stock up on Forever stamps before the increase. You could buy the stamps when you mail that first letter to your kids.
  • You could discuss whether it is worth the effort to organize your sock drawer since you never have trouble finding the pair that you want to wear.
  • You could talk about not renewing magazine subscriptions where you do not read the magazines.
  • You could decide who is more responsible for going through the magazine pile and getting rid of the unread magazines.
  • You could make a list of people you could call to have dinner with this summer.
  • Instead of talking, you could play Chinese checkers or Scrabble or maybe go to a movie.
  • You could talk about how great it is to not have the kids at home.

These are suggestions and you can add anything else you want to this list.
