I heard some election experts being interviewed, and they predicted that it is almost impossible for this election to end up with a President who will have both the Senate and House controlled by their party. Nothing is impossible!
Right now, the majorities in the Senate and House are razor-thin. A strong showing by either presidential candidate can easily sweep a few Senators and into the winner’s circle. The divisiveness among and within both major parties is frightening and upsetting. I am not sure how much of an advantage a hat trick of parties would accomplish any more than a split Senate and House. In any event, there is no sense in obsessing over this since we will know for sure soon after election day.
We might feel we do not have any control over the outcome and that it does not matter how we vote, or even whether we vote – but it does! In some respects, the final results might not be affected by one or two votes. However, the volume of voters, how they are constituted and where they are concentrated can provide insights for future elections and glimpses into the legislative issues that need to be considered. It could also identify latent power bases.
I care how you vote and, in particular, who you vote for and who you do not vote for, but that is not the purpose of this blog. I feel it is more important for everyone who is eligible does vote. Voting is a cherished and hard-fought right and privilege that is not enjoyed in all countries. Poor turnouts also send a message that we are apathetic about what our elected representatives do, and we do not feel it matters, and if that seems so, then it might end up being so.
So, my friends, vote in the next and every following election. It is a keystone of our freedom and a way to assure the maintenance of our liberty and way of life.
Vote this November.
