Zack Smith serves as Lead of the Real Estate Appraisal practice, bringing over a decade of experience delivering valuation, appraisal and advisory services to clients across complex and high-stakes engagements.

He specializes in complex and specialty-use properties, with experience spanning data centers, oil and natural gas assets, university campuses, self-storage facilities, student housing, seasonal resorts, conservation easements, mining properties, LIHTCs, marinas and eminent domain acquisitions. His work helps clients navigate nuanced valuation challenges with precision and clarity.

He has performed and supervised assignments in more than 45 states, as well as the District of Columbia, South America, Europe and Asia, providing clients with consistent, market-informed insights across diverse geographies. In addition, Zack provides litigation support and has been qualified as an expert witness approximately two dozen times. He supports clients and counsel in matters involving residential and commercial real estate, energy and mining assets, conservation easements and condemnation and eminent domain, delivering credible, defensible analyses in high-impact proceedings.

Zack extends his leadership through active roles in several professional organizations. He serves on the Board of Directors and as Chair of the Candidate Guidance Committee for the Appraisal Institute – Upstate New York Chapter. He is also a member of the Executive Committee, serving as Secretary and Chair of the Certification Committee for the International Institute of Mineral Appraisers, and Chair of the Valuation Standards Committee for the Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration.

A published author, Zack has contributed over a dozen works ranging from continuing education materials for appraisers to academic papers and conference presentations.

He also brings extensive volunteer experience in emergency response and community service, including roles as an EMT, with local fire departments, Habitat for Humanity and the American Red Cross. His work with the Red Cross spans multiple leadership and instructional roles, including Health and Safety Instructor, Instructor Trainer/Instructional Designer, Disaster Action Team member, Regional Public Affairs team member and service on Financial Oversight and Audit Committees.

In his free time, Zack enjoys distance running and training for half-marathons, marathons and Spartan Runs.
