WithumSmith+Brown Promotes Three to Partner

WithumSmith+Brown remains committed to growing its corporate leadership team, promoting three senior managers to partner level, effective July 1, 2014. This year’s advancing class includes: Christopher DeMayo, CPA, MBA licensed in New Jersey and New York, Justin O’Horo, CPA, and Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP), and Brian T. Lovett, CPA, JD, licensed in the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania and Juris Doctor (JD).

Christopher DeMayo, CPA, MBA

Christopher DeMayo is the Team Leader of WS+B’s Startup/Emerging Growth Technology Services Group. When asked what sparked his interest in this industry, Chris said, “The passion that my clients have about what they are doing. They are truly inventors, trying in some way to change the world for the better and disrupt conventional thinking. I feed off of their energy and passion for their craft, their belief that anything is possible. They are constantly asking a simple question ‘What if you could…’ I find that to be really intriguing.”

His diverse experience within the industry includes consulting on a wide variety of complex tax and accounting matters within the technology industry, including analysis of revenue recognition standards as well as accounting for complex capital structures. DeMayo has also led due diligence teams for a variety of mergers and acquisitions representing both targets and acquirers.

DeMayo graduated from Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ, with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s in business administration. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA), the New Jersey Technology Council (NJTC) and the New York Technology Council (NYTECH).

Justin O’Horo, CPA, CITP

Justin O’Horo has 14 years of professional accounting experience, specializing in the fields of professional services and information technology.

“Becoming a partner is obviously exciting and rewarding by nature,” O’Horo said. “But to me it really means having the opportunity, responsibility, pleasure and honor to continue growing the practice while staying true to our core values and culture.”

O’Horo graduated from Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA, with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He is active in the profession serving on various national and state level committees for the AICPA and NJSCPA. O’Horo is also a member of NJTC and the New Jersey Alliance for Action and is active in the community through involvement with CPC Behavioral Healthcare and The First Tee of Monmouth and Ocean County.

Brian Lovett, CPA, JD

Brian Lovett is a member of WS+B’s International Tax Services Group, State and Local Tax Services Group, as well as a member of WS+B’s Real Estate Services Group. Lovett has extensive experience serving the tax needs of both public companies and closely held businesses, including all aspects of tax compliance for partnerships and corporations.

With over 15 years of professional experience, Lovett focuses on advising clients on the structure and tax consequences of new business ventures, as well as assisting with restructuring existing businesses for increased tax efficiency. When asked why he enjoys tax as much as he does, Lovett responds, “It offers the opportunity to solve problems while adding value and impacting client’s bottom-line. Tax impacts almost every business decision and also has a real impact in our client’s lives.”

Lovett graduated from The College of New Jersey, Ewing Township, NJ, with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He also received his Juris Doctor from Rutgers University School of Law, Camden, NJ. He is a member of the AICPA, NJSCPA, American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants (AAA-CPA), and the American Bar Association. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Directors and the Finance Committee for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mercer County and is Treasurer of the Lawrence Township Education Foundation.
