New York Minutia – The Sequel!

Additional CHAR-500 Filing

Following up from our article on May 14, 2021,the New York State (NYS) Assembly has passed a bill repealing New York Executive Law, Subsection (9) of Section 172-b which imposes additional and cumbersome reporting requirements for certain nonprofit organizations already registered and filing form CHAR500 with the NYS Attorney General’s Charities Bureau.

This particular provision was enacted with little fanfare in 2020. With passage by the Assembly, the repeal of this onerous and redundant (same filing, different agency-Department of State) law is only Senate and Governor approval away from enactment.

We will keep you posted as progress toward repeal is made.
