Microsoft’s July 2017 Office 365 Updates: What You Need to Know

Office 365 updates for July contain the introduction of two newish workloads for the Office 365 suite. In June 2017, Microsoft released New-to-Office-365-in-July-banner-2.png Microsoft Forms to commercial tenants, bringing them a workload that has been a part of the education tenants for some time now.
Microsoft Forms is a lightweight survey tool, allowing users to create quick and easy surveys to capture feedback and data. The output can then leverage some great visualization tools to display the results.

The other newish workload coming to commercial tenants is Stream. Many may know Stream as being previously named Office 365 Video. Under its new branding, Stream has a host of very nice capabilities including: automatic transcription with timeline, time codes are also available in the video comments. Videos from Stream can be embedded in Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Yammer. For every Office 365 Group, a new Stream channel is created allowing for easy organization of content.

Aside from these two new additions, there is a big update that came for Outlook desktop client for Mac users. Many features that Windows users have become reliant on are now available to Mac users. These features include the Send Later feature to time the delivery of email messages and the Delivery Receipts and Read Receipts confirmations. There are a host of other updates for Outlook Mac that can be found in the June 19th Office blog post.

Other notable updates this month are in the mobile realm. The Planner mobile app was released in June and while it’s a starting point as far as capability, Microsoft has plans for future releases to include features such as creating a new plan, push notifications, and InTune integration. This is for both iOS and Android.

The Outlook app for iOS and Android is getting enhancements with Contact Cards. The UI is more visually distinctive and capability and integration with initiating communication with a contact is improved.

Lastly, security updates were introduced during June. These important enhancements relate to Advanced Threat Protection and quarantine capabilities. For details on these updates see the June 22 Office Blog Post.
