Charlie Gibson is a principal in the Energy and Oilfield Services Team with over two decades of experience, specializing in corporate and partnership taxation and tax accounting for the energy, gas and oilfield industry. He helps clients navigate complex business challenges by simplifying intricate tax issues, enhancing financial reporting accuracy and guiding organizations through high-stakes financial and operational transitions.
As a tax professional, he specializes in federal and state income tax return compliance, tax accounting under International Accounting Standards (IAS) 12 for IFRS reporting and ASC 740 for U.S. GAAP reporting. Charlie has extensive experience advising upstream oil and gas companies on complex U.S. federal income tax matters, tax accounting and industry-specific reporting. He brings deep technical knowledge in DD&A, tax basis tracking and fixed-asset intensive positions central to upstream operations. Charlie has led tax provision reviews under U.S. GAAP, guided major reorganizations with deferred tax modeling and purchase accounting impacts and directed the integration of legacy tax processes into technology-enabled systems. He also manages multi-entity and cross-border tax compliance, analyzes intercompany transactions and withholding requirements and serves as a trusted advisor to energy-sector leadership on tax strategy, reporting accuracy and operational transitions.
Charlie is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Texas and fluent in Spanish, combining his technical expertise with bilingual communication skills to help his clients. His professional background includes experience at global firms, within industry roles, at a publicly traded Fortune 500 company and with middle-market accounting firms.

Charlie, a Central Texas native, holds a rare academic mix from both The University of Texas and Texas A&M—always a conversation starter. His passion for travel began with a study-abroad program in England and has since grown into a love for exploring cultures and histories worldwide. An avid reader and documentary enthusiast, Charlie pairs his interest in history with a love of languages, having studied French and Bulgarian. Outside of work, he enjoys collecting coins and stamps, reflecting his appreciation for the marks that history leaves.
