Withum’s Brad Caruso Garners LLS NJ Visionaries of the Year Runner Up

Brad Caruso, Withum’s Not-for-Profit and Education Services Practice Leader, raises second most donations during LLS New Jersey’s 2023 Visionaries of the Year Campaign.

Withum Partner Brad Caruso was named Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) of NJ Visionary of the Year Runner Up for his tireless fundraising and patient advocacy efforts over 10 weeks to support the fight against blood cancers. Brad, supported by a team of 24 passionate individuals coined Civic Warriors for a Cure, raised the second-most pool of donations, contributing to LLS NJ’s total of $626,636 for this year’s Visionaries of the Year campaign.

Brad was recognized during the June Grand Finale event at The Palace at Somerset Park in Somerset, NJ.

I’m grateful that we had the opportunity to participate in this impactful campaign and raise funds for such a great cause, said Brad Caruso, who lost his grandfather to Leukemia. I know cancer’s first-hand effects on a family, and I wanted to do something to help others going through similar situations. Through this process, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting individuals at LLS who are recovering from or personally affected by cancer and have learned from them how LLS can positively impact their lives. Everyone speaks highly of LLS and the work they do.

Brad’s fundraising efforts rallied those within his local community and nationwide. During one of the LLS candidate fundraising challenges, Brad won the 50-state donation challenge, receiving the most contributions from various states out of all the other 14 candidates. The Civic Warriors for a Cure Team also organized multiple events to raise awareness and campaign support via a public fundraiser event at Headliner Oasis in Neptune, a Chipotle Fundraiser in Sea Girt, and an ice bath social media challenge.

The nonprofit space is very familiar to Brad. He’s worked with tax-exempt organizations since starting at Withum in 2008. Today, he leads Withum’s Not-for-Profit and Education Services Team, which provides advisory, tax and attest services to national not-for-profit organizations and global NGOs. In 2019, Brad started Withum’s Civic Warriors podcast, which has a five-star rating on Apple Podcast. Brad, the host of Civic Warriors, dedicated three episodes to LLS, raising awareness for blood cancers and advocating for patient support. You can listen to them here:

Brad is an active member of his hometown, serving as a trustee and Second Lieutenant with the Montgomery Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1.

About Visionaries of the Year

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Visionaries of the Year campaign, formerly Man and Woman of the Year, is a 10-week philanthropic competition for leaders in local communities across the United States. Candidates and their team members raise funds for LLS in honor of local blood cancer survivors, our Honored Heroes.

The title “Visionary of the Year” is awarded to the candidate whose team raises the most funds during the competition. The top Visionaries of the Year candidate in the country is awarded the national title.

As part of their journey, candidates and their teams will also choose a pillar of LLS’s mission – Research, Patient Education & Support, or Advocacy – to champion on as they raise money.
