Unlocking R&D Tax Credits is a two-part mini series designed to help food, beverage and consumer product companies understand how the R&D tax credit works — and how to claim it with confidence.

Derek is a Tax Principal with over 16 years of experience in public accounting, specializing in accounting for income taxes (ASC 740), consulting for mergers and acquisitions and startups, qualified small business stock and stock-based compensation.
He has additional expertise in servicing clients in industrial and consumer products, life sciences, technology and emerging growth and private client services industries.
Derek is a Withum Training Fellow, leading summer courses for technical training within the Firm.

Active in his business community, Derek serves on the Golden Gate Restaurant Association panel and has led tax strategy CPE trainings with external organizations to share his knowledge on the restaurant business and tax. Derek is also an active volunteer at his daughters’ school, participating in classroom activities and community garden days.
Outside of work, Derek enjoys spending time with his family. He is a three-time Boston Marathon runner and a Spartan Trifecta. His hobbies include woodworking, among other Home Improvement DIY activities.
