Withum Collects 2,500 Cans of Food for Charity; Conducts Sculpture Contest
With recent news circulating that many food banks are currently facing a critical shortage of supplies, WithumSmith+Brown coordinated two “jeans day” food drives, when staff members throughout the firm were permitted to wear jeans on two Fridays, November 1 and 15, as long as they donated canned or non-perishable goods. The result was the collection of nearly 2,500 cans of food, which were ultimately distributed to several local organizations, including the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, Community FoodBank of New Jersey, and HomeFront.
In the spirit of fun and competition, the offices based in in Red Bank, Princeton, New Brunswick, Morristown and New York City used their donated items to construct elaborate “can sculptures,” with the winning creation by the Red Bank office paying homage to the ongoing “Restore the Shore” effort. Other sculptures included a commemoration of the firm’s upcoming 40th anniversary, a holiday wonderland, and recreations of famous structures such as Egypt’s Great Sphinx of Giza and New York City’s Empire State Building.
This food drive was the unofficial kickoff to the firm’s annual Withum Week of Caring, an initiative that encourages the Withum family to give back a small portion of their time to their communities, in lieu of working in the office during the three days before Thanksgiving. The firm’s 450 staff members connect with a variety of not-for-profit organizations, helping support their mission through volunteerism, sharing in the spirit of giving.
