Breaking Down TEAM: What Hospitals Need to Know About the New CMS Program

Starting in January 2026, the Transforming Episode Accountability Model (TEAM) will launch as a five-year, episode-based CMS payment initiative. Participation in TEAM will be mandatory for hospitals within selected geographic regions, known as Core Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs), across the United States. The model will encompass five key surgical procedures: lower extremity joint replacement, surgical treatment for hip femur fractures, spinal fusion, coronary artery bypass graft, and major bowel procedures.
