Task List When Selling or Buying a Business


A prior post included a task list for a client that was selling his business. It was helpful to him and he used it to anticipate what to expect during the process. Also, by posting it, it also reduced his fee to us somewhat since I didn’t need to tell him what to expect from every detail of every step of the process. This was prepared along with my colleague, Lou Young, who is also involved with many clients selling or buying businesses.

Since then, we’ve had other many interactions with clients and decided to add to the task list. When we finished, we felt it was a little too long for this site, and also would get a wider exposure on a site maintained by the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts with the URL www.quickreadbuzz.com of which I am on the editorial board and have posted many articles on.

So, today we want to call your attention to the updated task list and am providing a link for you to access it here.

Keep in mind that while there are many common characteristics, every deal is different and needs to be looked at separately without any preconceived notions of what it should be. This list is a guide to the process, not on getting the deal done.
