Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is a hot new solutions process in the digital world that I have been hearing a lot about recently. Yesterday morning, William R. Hagaman, Jr,, our Managing Partner, CEO sent one of his regular new client emails to all us at Withum, and it was about a new client engagement for RPA consulting and I want to share it here. It also tells how new business is generated in the exciting world of Withum advisory services. I left out the client’s name, but included the names of the many people at Withum that were involved in the process of obtaining and assisting the client.

“Good morning, Everyone,
In this edition of New Client News, we share about a great digital advisory solutions win derived by a connection made at a past conference, spotlighting a new and exciting practice area: Robotic Process Automation!

The new client is an engineering firm with offices throughout the United States. In Summer of 2019, back when we all conducted seminars in person, Digital and Technology Solutions’ Lead Partner Dale Tuttle provided an overview of emerging cloud technologies at a conference in San Diego. The client became interested in his discussion of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) tools; these are tools that mimic human actions to automate manual processes. During discussions held right at the conference, it became clear their interest was real given they currently have many manual, yet business-critical, processes.

Fast forward to late Fall 2019: Fabian Williams helped arrange several demos for the client using various RPA tools and conducted a more detailed assessment of their existing processes. In the end, and after delays caused by COVID-19, the client elected to use Nintex’s Foxtrot RPA tool based on our team’s work. Ashley Hickman and Kristina Miley just started to setup and configure Foxtrot to extract new contracts from emails and automatically get them entered into the client’s contracts management application. The client is also interested in taking data from their time-keeping system and moving that data to other apps to facilitate detailed analysis. Adam Sulier will be shadowing the team as he ramps up his RPA knowledge.

Withum is helping implement Nintex Foxtrot and assisting the client as they learn how to configure the tool and self-automate their processes going forward. This turned out to be a small project for us, but it is providing great value to the client. We are fully automating a process that is time-consuming, tedious, and error-prone but critical to the overall performance of the client’s business. We can also use this engagement as a prototype that we can pivot from in the future. Nicely done everyone!

Have a great day,
Bill”

Notice the many people involved in obtaining the client and then assisting them in getting started. Also as part of our training, we use staff shadowing. Unrelated to Bill’s email, I posted a column at AccountingToday.com explaining how shadowing works and its effectiveness.
