I posted an April Fool blog on April 1. It went through three versions and multiple rewrites until I get it exactly the way I wanted it.

And then a lot of readers thought it was true, but some of those did not read the last sentence. Here is the link to that blog.

I’ve been writing April Fool messages for years. I try to make them outrageous but write it in a way that seems true. Some of my April Fool letters or blogs were true but were from a different period in history. Some make fun of common situations.

The one I posted last week wanted to exaggerate the results of the stock trading volatility but turned out to be too close to the truth. My point was that the trading was not done by “investors” but by traders in a way that was tantamount to gambling. My opinion was that today’s trading will have no effect on the long term results of broad based stock valuations. I believe that and also believe that the current crises will pass and while it is creating widespread damage, and considerable permanent damage, to many people, businesses and not-for-profits, the entire economy as a whole will be stronger in ten years than it was before the pandemic started. Evidently my “analysis” of the trading situation was too close to the truth.

My style has been to make the blog seem realistic and then add at the bottom that it was an April Fool tome. To avoid any future misunderstandings, if I ever write another April Fool blog, I will tell what it is right at the beginning. For those that were misled last week, I regret and apologize for the misunderstanding. The title has also been changed to reflect that it was an April Fool Blog.

Here are links to three previous April Fool blogs if you care to read them:

Not an April Fool blog but I like the story the way I told it and it could have been one: Tax Collectors Wife Rides Naked to Protest Unfair Taxes

I hope you are safe and well. We are fine at my house.
