James C. Bourke - CPA.CITP, CFF, CGMA, Partner

Jim is a partner and director based in WithumSmith+Brown’s Red Bank office and is partner-in-charge of Firm Technology. In that capacity, he has the responsibility for overseeing all technology issues and operations for the Firm’s thirteen offices and over 450 employees. Jim gives direction and vision to a group of talented internal technology professions whose job it is to keep the Firm functional 24/7. His responsibilities consist of network design and implementation, Internet connectivity solutions, wireless network configuration, technology strategic planning, as well as overseeing the acquisition, implementation and training of new applications and technologies throughout the Firm. Jim is also responsible for the Firm’s annual technology budget.  In addition, Jim services clients in a variety of industries including distribution, manufacturing, information technology, service, software, technology and water transportation.

Jim has been a frequent speaker at many State CPA Societies and the AICPA on topics specifically related to technologies employed within a CPA firm. He has been consulted by numerous CPA firms throughout the United States on appropriateness of technologies being employed within the Firm and has also been a frequent speaker on related topics for the New Jersey Technology Council, NJBIZ magazine and other organizations. Jim has authored many articles dealing with firm technology issues and was featured on the cover of past issues of Accounting Technology Magazine and Practical Accountant Magazine. Jim has been named by Accounting Today as one of the Top 100 Influential People in the Accounting Profession for three consecutive years. 

Jim received his BS degree in accounting from Kean University, Union, NJ. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants (NJSCPA). Jim was one of the first CPAs in the nation to receive the certified information technology professional (CITP) designation from the AICPA.  In addition, Jim holds the certified financial forensics credential (CFF) also from the AICPA and is a chartered global management accountant (CGMA).  He is Past President for the NJSCPA and is also Past-Chairman of the NJSCPA Chapter Operations Committee and Past President of the Monmouth/Ocean Chapter of the NJSCPA. Jim is also a member of the board of directors of the New Jersey Technology Council.

In addition, Jim currently is chair on the AICPA’s CITP Credential Committee and is a member of the AICPA Top Technology Initiatives Task Force and the AICPA Council. He resides in Monmouth County, NJ.
