The awards program honors New Jersey’s most dynamic women in business who have been making headlines in their field. To qualify, a nominee had to meet selection criteria that included living or working in New Jersey and holding significant authority for decision making in her company.
WithumSmith+Brown (WS+B), Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, was the winner of 3 gold medals from the New Jersey Law Journal’s first annual “Best Of” poll, in which New Jersey attorneys and administrators casted their votes for the best providers of products and services to the New Jersey legal community.
In the Withum Way spirit of giving back and supporting members of the WithumSmith+Brown family, the Firm’s Partners are pleased to announce the establishment of the WithumSmith+Brown Staff Hardship Relief Fund. The purpose of the fund is to financially assist our staff and their families who are experiencing a temporary hardship due to a significant life event, such as losing a home in a natural disaster or incurring financial burdens due to the illness of a family member. Receipt of the funds can be a major step for the staff member in his or her return to financial stability.
Every business in New Jersey and the Greater New York area has likely been affected by Superstorm Sandy at some degree - at minimum with power outages; and sadly, some with complete devastation. In response, WithumSmith+Brown formed the Storm Sandy Task Force, whose mission is to help with post-storm damage claims and recovery plans.
Anthony J. Nitti, CPA, MST, Partner-in-charge of the Aspen, CO, office of WithumSmith+Brown (WS+B), Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, and author of WS+B’s tax blog, Double Taxation, accepted an invitation to become a regular contributor to the tax section of Forbes.com, as well as other various print mediums for the business news giant. As a Forbes contributor, Nitti will continue his tax policy discussions, court case analysis, and helpful Q&A's, similar to what was published within his original tax blog.

Wendy Terry, CPA, CGMA, Partner, at WithumSmith+Brown (WS+B), Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, was appointed by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) as a member of their Employee Benefit Plans Expert Panel for the 2012-2013 volunteer service year, which will begin in October. The Expert Panel focuses on identifying industry-specific business reporting issues with an emphasis on accounting and audit.
Anthony J. Nitti, CPA, MST, Partner-in-charge of the Aspen office of WithumSmith+Brown (WS+B), Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, has been named in CPA Practice Advisor magazine's “2012 40 under 40” list. The list is highly regarded within the accounting profession, and recognizes 40 of the top young professionals around the country who are helping to positively shape the accounting and tax profession. The full list of winners appears in the September issue of the publication.

CITP.CFF.CGMA, WS+B Partner and Director of Firm Technology, has been named one of the accounting profession's "Top 100 Most Influential People" for a fifth year in a row, making Accounting Today magazine's 2012 list. Notable names also included on the list are President Barack Obama, Senator Chuck Grassley of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee and Doug Shulman, Commissioner of the IRS.
WithumSmith+Brown recently announced its initiative to further strengthen its international relationships by integrating a variety of marketing elements which will complement the firm's existing International Services practice area. Leveraging its affiliation with HLB International (HLBI; www.hlbi.com/), a leading mid-tier international network servicing clients through its member firms in over 100 countries, various members of WS+B have been actively traveling to other countries to develop strategic relationships, in addition to utilizing social media to maximize global reach.
WithumSmith+Brown, PC and law firm Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A. joined together to raise donations for this year's Stuff the Bus program, held by the United Way of Northern New Jersey. For 22 years, the program has collected new school supplies for children of low-income families in Somerset County, seeking to alleviate the strain on already strapped household budgets, as well as provide children the basic tools they need to succeed in school. Last year the program raised over 32,000 school supplies, which were distributed to more than 6,400 children at 45 schools in Somerset County.

Anthony J. Nitti, CPA, MST, Partner with WithumSmith+Brown, CPAs, co-authored the recently-released CCH Expert Treatise Library: Corporations Filing Consolidated Returns. The treatise is a comprehensive analysis of the tax law as it applies to corporations filing consolidated tax returns, and is set to become the primary research tool on the topic for CCH. CCH is the nation's largest tax research provider with hundreds of thousands of subscribers to both their online platform and their printed resources, which includes the Federal Tax Reporter and a library of focused treatises.
Eight Ways of Valuing A Family Owned Business is the topic of a presentation at the East Brunswick Public Library Business Resource Center on Wednesday April 25 at 7 pm.

Thomas A. Basilo will be honored at the Stillman School’s Graduate Hooding and Awards Ceremony on May 18th at Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ.

EisnerLubin llp, a New York City-based Certified Public Accounting firm, has merged its practice with regional CPA firm WithumSmith+Brown, PC (WS+B). With an effective date of November 1, 2011, the union adds 55 professionals to the WS+B roster, including nine partners. The EisnerLubin staff currently based in the office located at 1411 Broadway between 39th and 40th Streets will remain at that location, under the WithumSmith+Brown name.
Over 400 professionals from WithumSmith+Brown, CPAs got out of the office and into their communities this week to help local charities during the firm's inaugural Withum Week of Caring. WithumSmith+Brown, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, launched its inaugural Withum Week of Caring, sending everyone in their organization out into their communities to volunteer their time during the three days before Thanksgiving. With over 400 professionals across six states, the accounting staff was able to help over 30 different charitable organizations, including children's hospitals, social service organizations, animal shelters and soup kitchens.

Today, WithumSmith+Brown, PC, sent a letter to the Financial Accounting Foundation (FAF) urging it to make changes to the accounting standards for privately held companies.
"The management at WithumSmith+Brown feels that the debate has gone on for far too long and the time to address the needs of privately held enterprises is now,” stated Bill Hagaman, WS+B's managing partner and CEO. "Our client list is comprised of 5,500+ private companies, which are a major growth engine to both our local and national economy. If modifications to the accounting standards for privately held organizations were implemented, they could put more of their resources towards business generating programs, including job creation, investment and product development."
