Dodging the Fiscal Cliff

The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (ATRA) was signed into law on January 2, 2013, by President Obama after weeks of intense negotiations in Washington that nearly took us all over the “fiscal cliff.” Had the numerous expiring provisions, increases in tax rates for all taxpayers and spending cuts which were scheduled to take effect at the beginning of 2013 happened, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) had predicted it would have sent our economy back into a recession.
